We are volunteers in our community who help local high school graduates continue their education by providing a simple process that links students to both local and national scholarship opportunities.
We help students planning to attend accredited trade schools or vocational programs or 2- and 4-year college degree programs. To date we have given over $1,336,902 to more than 842 students.
Our scholarships have helped students attend programs for diesel mechanics, nursing, culinary arts, electronics, teacher education, social work, broadcasting, biology, art, computer science, auto maintenance, graphic arts, engineering, and many more.
We offer scholarships to ANY graduating senior living in the Gettysburg Area School district--even those attending other high schools or who are home schooled are eligible to apply through our organization. Some of our scholarships are only open to students graduating from Gettysburg Area High School, but many of them are open to everyone, with no requirement to attend GAHS.
How does the process work? Again this year our entire application process will be conducted online through a program designed and provided by Scholarship America, the national scholarship organization with which all Dollars for Scholars chapters are affiliated. Seniors will fill out an online profile which will include a wide variety of information beyond just names and addresses: school and community activities, sports, academic and activity awards, intended areas of post-secondary education study, essays, etc. As most of our scholarships are need-based, parents will need to fill out a financial assistance questionnaire to help us determine how much assistance is needed. Applying seniors will email requests for recommendations to adults who know them well and to their guidance counselor for an official transcript.
Detailed information and access to the system itself along with additional instructions is available by using the "Students & Parents" link in the menu at the top right of this page. Both students and parents will create a login to access the areas of the system designed for them. Students should begin building their profile so that it is complete by mid-February; when it is complete, they will be able to view scholarships for which the system determines them eligible. They can then choose to apply for each of those scholarships through the system itself. The deadline for that application process is midnight on Tuesday, March 15th,2022.
If you have questions that are not answered here on the website, please contact us at gettysburgdfs@gmail.com (put "Gettysburg Application Question" in the subject line).
PLEASE take advantage of what we offer; the only way to even hope of receiving a scholarship from us is to finish the work briefly described above by the due date.
